It's called SKIMMING Don't ever let your credit cards and debit cards out of your sight. If you are at a restaurant or anywhere for that matter, and you pay with your credit card or debit card, don't let your waiter or waitress take your card from your table. It's happening everywhere, they can get your number, and then they will use it or sell it and that's all it takes! Also, be wary of oddities at your ATM's. Don't slide your card through a reader that just doesn't look right. These readers can be set up on ATM's to gather information from the magnetic strip on your credit or debit card. Again, DON'T EVER LET YOUR CREDIT CARD OR DEBIT CARD OUT OF YOUR SIGHT! Additionally, make sure that your phone numbers are up to date with your credit card companies and the credit union. They will attempt to call and verify purchases that are unusual to your purchasing patterns, however, if your numbers are not up to date, they cannot reach you and some of these purchases may go through unhindered. Finally, Stay up to date with your credit reports and on all the scams that can occur. Check your credit report annually for free at www.annualcreditreport.com from all three credit reporting agencies, Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion.
